Call for Proposals: SFARI Bridge to Independence Award

The Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) issued a call for proposals for their Bridge to Independence Award. The call is open to US-based postdoctoral fellows who intend to seek tenure-track faculty positions in the 2017-18 academic year and wish to continue doing work relevant to autism. More information about the program is available on this website. First-stage proposals are due August 7.

Call for Proposals: Harrington Rare Disease Scholar Award Program

The Harrington Discovery Institute issued a call for proposals for the 2018 Harrington Rare Disease Scholar Award (sponsored by Takeda Pharmaceuticals). The call is open to US-based PhD or MD researchers whose work shows promise for translation into new rare disease treatments. More information about the program is available on this website. Letters of intent are due July 19.

TSC Biosample Repository Update – June 2017

Our TSC Biosample Repository now has 258 biosamples, including 143 blood or buccal samples from participants enrolled in the Natural History Database project. The Biosample Repository also includes blood samples from children and many of their parents collected by the TSC Clinical Research Consortium through the Developmental Synaptopathies Consortium and the PREVeNT trial. High-quality biospecimens and their associated clinical data will enable researchers to discover biomarkers, establish human cell lines or tissue arrays for drug testing, and search for clues to understand why TSC is so different from person to person.

Recap: Early-Stage TSC Researcher Meeting

A group of early-career researchers held the Second Early-Stage Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Researcher Meeting on June 21, 2017, the day before the International Research Conference on TSC and LAM: Innovating Through Partnerships. The meeting provided a forum for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty to meet each other, present their research, and hear career advice from established investigators. Hope Northrup, MD and David Kwiatkowski, MD, PhD gave keynote addresses, and Carmen Priolo, MD, PhD; Jamie Capal, MD; and William Stanford, PhD sat on the career development panel. Recap: 2017 International Research Conference on TSC and LAM

The 2017 International Research Conference on TSC and LAM: Innovating Through Partnerships was an astounding success! More than 230 researchers, clinicians, nurses and advocacy group leaders attended, coming from 27 different countries. The meeting took place in Washington, DC from June 22-24. The program book, with abstracts for all talks and posters, is available on our Research Conferences page. A full conference summary will be available soon.
